You have invested in quality components to entertain you, keep you secure, and automate certain tasks within your home.  It is only prudent to protect that investment with devices that prevent potentially fatal surges from reaching your equipment and regulating the inbound line voltage to extend the life of your gear.



We advise a layered approach to protecting your home.  The outermost layer or shield would consist of a "service level" electrical surge preventer and also "service level" preventers for your telephone, cable television and/or satellite service.  For example, lightning does not have to directly strike your home to inflict serious damage.  A nearby strike can result in incredible amounts of energy entering your home via an underground telephone or cable television cable.  And it boggles the mind to begin to think of where that voltage can freely travel from there.  It's similar to the "ankle bone is connected to the leg bone" jingle except the "phone line is connected to the security panel, the phone line is connected to the satellite box, the satellite box is connected to the AV receiver, the AV receiver is connected to the TV....", you get the idea.  


Beyond this service level protection, we recommend "device specific" protection for televisions, projectors, subwoofers and "multi device" units for areas like AV component cabinets and offices.  With this approach, you have not eliminated the threat, but you have taken cost effective steps to mitigate it.  And for television and AV areas, many units include voltage regulation and power conditioning to not only extend the life of your gear but also help it reach it's full performance potential.  And where you are dealing with devices with hard drives (DVRs, computers, etc.) you can include a battery backup to enable the device to operate in the event of a momentary power outage and properly shutdown in the event of an extended outage.  Finally, newer surge devices also include "smart outlets" that will turn off peripheral devices like printers or scanners in the event it does not sense any change in voltage demand from the primary device (a sleeping PC for example).
